Organizers

The workshops as well as the subsequent European Championship are conducted by Dr. phil. Dr.  paed. Gert Mittring, Bonn. Mr. Mittring is assisted by Pascal Kaul and other mental calculation experts. Dr. Dr. Gert Mittring has the sole responsibility for the conduct of the championship. The Parents' Association of Highly Gifted Children (EHK), Switzerland, provides support in the organisation of the event.


Dr. Dr. Gert Mittring can solve every arithmetic problem faster than a calculator. The psychologist and multiple (11 times) mental calculation world champion is a passionate number cruncher who bring the magic of numbers to everyone, not just exceptional talents.  He is a qualified computer scientist and psychologist in Bonn, Germany. Mittring is a full member of the German Psychological Society. His research focuses primarily on the pedagogic and psychological area, especially the phenomenon of giftedness and intelligence tests. He is the author of numerous articles and books.

The Swiss Association for Highly Gifted Children (www.ehk.ch) supports the organisation of the event. The purpose of the EHK is to foster the well-being of highly gifted children by

·       providing information about the subject of giftedness, supporting families with highly gifted children,    organizing activities, programmes and events suitable for highly gifted children

The EHK was founded in 1990 and currently has about 600 members, families and individuals throughout Switzerland.


Other experienced mental calculators will assist in the organisation of the workshops


Pascal Kaul is the best Swiss head calculator with two 4th places each in mental arithmetic and lightning arithmetic at the World Championships in London 2015. As a specialist in accounting at an insurance company, the Winterthur native is already juggling with numbers because of his profession He found out that the feeling for numbers is getting more and more lost to new technologies.  A concern that both Pascal and Gert share. The two got to know each other at the World Championships. Pascal Kaul became famous for his badminton skills in the 80s. He won the Swiss championship title in men's singles and doubles several times and in 2014 he celebrated another double Swiss championship title with the seniors. Pascal Kaul will support Gert Mittring in the workshops and advise the participants in addition to the workshop.


Maximilian Krahn (19) discovered mental math at a young age and has had fun with roots of various sizes ever since. He took part in a German championship, three European championships and three world championships and learned many mental calculation tricks along the way.  Since September 2020 he is studying physics. He finds the many mental arithmetic tricks he learnt very useful to short-cut calculations. Along the way, he has written his first book  "Secrets of root algorithms" .


Special Guest Mohammed El- Mir. Mohammad El-Mir from Lebanon is one of the top mental math prodigies winning the Junior Mental Calculation Championship five times since 2014.


Tanvi Shah( MA, PGCE, CIMA and MBA)  is an Edupreneur in the Field of mathematics. A founder member of Mathe OlympIQ organization which provides an enriched environment to children to advance in mathematics. It is one of the platform for children , to compete in world class mathematics competitions and explore mathematics. Tanvi is a teacher at the Swiss International school, OlympIQ talent school of Basel.
